City Council Approves Specialist to Aid Residents in Addiction Recovery

2025 Stormwater Stewards honorees with City Council

June 17, 2025 — At the June 16, 2025, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council authorized a pilot project that funds a contracted peer support specialist to provide mental health and substance abuse assistance. The one-year pilot project, to be funded with proceeds received from national opioid litigation, could continue if additional funding sources could be identified and the program meets desired objectives.

On second reading, the Council adopted the 2025-45 Housing Needs and Capacity Analysis (HNCA) as a sub-element of the Comprehensive Plan. This action completes the Housing Our Future project, which has provided the City with a clearer understanding of local housing need for the next 20 years, confirmed that Wilsonville has sufficient land to accommodate that need, and outlined strategies to catalyze future housing production.

During Communications, Natural Resources staff recognized the inaugural honorees of the City's new Stormwater Stewards Recognition Program, which acknowledges individuals and businesses who have been exceptional in the management of stormwater facilities on private property. The 2025 recipients are Grande Pointe HOA (residential), ProGrass (commercial), and Iosco Companies (industrial).

Additionally, representatives from Republic Services provided an overview of Oregon legislation in process that pertains to waste and recycling collection. The update summarized changes occurring within the industry to ensure compliance with the Recycling Modernization Act as well as the timeline for those changes.

Republic Services noted that the Bulky Waste Day collection event takes place at the Ridder Rd. transfer station this Saturday, June 21, from 9 am to1 pm. The event is free for Wilsonville residents; donations to Wilsonville Community Sharing are encouraged and proof of residence is required.

The Council noted the City’s upcoming Juneteenth Celebration, which takes place this Thursday, June 19, from 5 to 7:30 pm at Town Center Park. The event is funded through the generous support of local businesses, including platinum sponsors Swire Coca-Cola and Oregon State Credit Union. City offices and the Library are closed on Thursday for the Juneteenth holiday.

During the work session held prior to the meeting, Legal staff provided an update on the annual rate review with Republic Services that will take place to establish 2026 waste and recycling rates.

The meeting previously scheduled for July 7 has been canceled. The next meeting of the City Council takes place on Monday, July 21, at 7 pm. A work session is scheduled to precede the meeting. The meeting and the work session are open to the public.
