Bulky Waste Day to Take Place on June 21

June 5, 2005 — The City and Republic Services are hosting the spring Bulky Waste Day collection on Saturday, Jun. 21, from 9 am to 1 pm at Republic Services (10295 SW Ridder Rd.) in Wilsonville.

Bulky Waste Day provides an opportunity for Wilsonville residents to dispose of large or unusual items that cannot be picked up curbside. Proof of residence is required to participate.

There is no charge to dispose of bulky waste. Instead, the City asks participants to donate (cash, check or Venmo) to Wilsonville Community Sharing, which provides critical social services assistance to local families in need. Donations are collected on site.

Upon arrival, vehicles are directed first to the donations area, then to the scales to be weighed, and then to disposal bays. Participants should only bring items that can be removed from their vehicle without staff assistance.

Bulky Waste Day accepts many items otherwise hard to dispose of, including dishwashers, televisions, refrigerators, computers, monitors, stoves, dryers, water heaters, couches, mattresses, scrap metal, tables and chairs, and clean, untreated wood. All fuel and oils must be emptied from lawn mowers and other gas-powered equipment.

The program does not accept construction debris of any type, propane bottles or canisters, paint, batteries, solvents, thinners, household garbage, car tires, or yard debris.

Closure of Ridder Rd. to Require Traffic Controls

Because of a Willamette Water Supply project to install water pipeline under Ridder Rd., Republic Services will not be accessible via 95th Ave.

Signage and flaggers will be in place to direct participants to enter the Republic Services from the west, on SW Clutter Rd., via Grahams Ferry Rd. Note that a low-clearance (12’6”) railroad trestle on Grahams Ferry Rd. may prohibit some vehicles from entering from the south. Vehicles requiring high clearance must access Grahams Ferry Rd. from the north, via Day Rd.

Rotary Club Volunteers to Provide Bulky Waste Pickup

The City is partnering with the Rotary Club of Wilsonville to offer pickup of bulky waste items for a limited number older adults and other Wilsonville residents unable to transport waste to Republic Services.  This service, limited to 25-30 requests on first-come, first-served basis, is intended only for those who would otherwise be unable to participate.
