With Umo, the new electronic fare payment system Since August 1, 2023, riders can put money in their Umo account (stored value) and pay a fare with each boarding of a Salem-1X bus. Once you have paid total fares equal to the cost of a day or monthly pass, no more fare is required to ride for the duration of that day or calendar month. For more information visit Cherriots.org/umo.
When you board the front of the bus, you either drop the exact amount of cash in the fare box or tap your electronic UMO pass. Bus drivers do not carry change. You should always board a bus at the front and exit in the rear (if there is a rear door).
At the Salem Transit Center in Salem (1X only).
Alternatively we suggest the use of the Umo app for travel on both the SMART & Cherriots 1X.
Most SMART buses are free to ride. The only services which charge a fare are the 1X Route to Salem and Out-of-Town Medical Dial-a-Ride.
The local businesses in Wilsonville pay for the majority of SMART’s service through the payroll tax. Keeping the system fareless allows residents and workers to move around freely around the area.
