Council Adopts Tourism Strategies for New Fiscal Year
May 20, 2026 — At the May 18, 2026, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved a five-year action plan and one-year implementation plan to advance Wilsonville’s Tourism Development Strategy.
The City’s tourism campaign includes the ExploreWilsonville.com website, ongoing social media and marketing efforts, direct engagement with travel writers and social influencers, the relaunching of the Explore Wilsonville E-newsletter, and data analysis to better understand what motivates travelers to visit Wilsonville.
The Council authorized a $299,000 contract with Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. to fund Phase 1 of the Aeration Basin Expansion Project at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This project phase identifies a preferred expansion alternative. Upon construction during a later phase, the project adds a fourth basin and a seventh blower to the aeration basin facility and makes seismic resilience improvements.
During Mayor’s Business, Mayor Shawn O’Neil noted the City’s annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony, which takes place on Monday, May 25, at 10 am at the Oregon Korean War Memorial at Town Center Park. Additionally, Mayor O’Neil read proclamations in recognition of LGBTQIA++ Pride Month (June) and National Public Works Week (May 17-23).
During Communications, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue District Division Chief James Smario provided the Council with a summary of recent service trends and an update of the fire district’s new initiatives and bond projects.
During the work session held prior to the meeting, the Council reviewed Development Code provisions concerning waivers to building height currently provided within the Town Center zoning area, reviewed input from an ad hoc task force currently examining Town Center building height waivers, and provided additional questions for the task force to consider as it continues its evaluation for the Council’s benefit.
Additionally, Natural Resources staff shared a progress report on two projects recently funded with Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement grants:
- Wilsonville Field Guide. This publication will showcase Wilsonville’s natural resources, inspire exploration of the outdoors, and share information about nature-based learning. When it’s published in June, this 100–125-page resource will be available for loan or purchase at the Wilsonville Library.
- Community Wildlife Connection: To facilitate nature-based learning, the project has funded a network of wildlife cameras that are now helping educate students about the abundance and diversity of Wilsonville wildlife.
The next regular meeting of the Wilsonville City Council takes place on Monday, June 1, at 7 pm. A work session is scheduled to take place at 5 pm. Both the meeting and the work session are open to the public.
Community members can watch all City Council meetings on cable (Xfinity Ch. 30, Ziply Ch. 32) or online via the City’s YouTube channel: wilsonvilleoregon.gov/WilsonvilleTV.
